A Budgeting Solution to Keep You Sane

By AMANDA STEINBERGSent: Monday August 29, 2011
Amanda's Budget Chart

I've always been a yo-yo budgeter. Some months I'd be the DailyWorth poster-child for clarity; in other months I'd fall into a Money Coma, resulting in over-spending.

Then, I came up with an ingenious solution: I took the old tactic of multiple savings accounts and twisted it—I opened multiple checking accounts.
  • First, I figured out my monthly nut (more-or-less fixed expenses like rent, car payment, child care, etc.). Now I keep that amount in my main checking account, at Bank of America. That’s my bills account.

  • Next, I identified how much CASH I needed each month for variable expenses like groceries, diapers, Vanity Fair, gas, babysitters, and occasional cocktails with Ramit.
I now transfer $200 a week (automated) from my checking account into a separate ING Direct account* with its own debit card. That’s my spending account.

Why it works: Now I can call up the balance in my spending account on my iPhone, and I know exactly how much money I can spend. And I never “accidentally” spend the money that’s meant for bills.

For savings, I automatically transfer $50 from checking into three different savings accounts each pay period so that I don’t overspend on clothes, gifts or travel.

Yes, it takes some time to get everything coordinated (and for your debit card to arrive), but trust me—it's a minor investment of time for a big gain in sanity!

Check yourself. What tweaks have helped your budget better fit your life?

Quotes

--"The hardest thing in life is knowing which bridges to cross and which ones to burn"--

--"Sometimes if you love someone you got to let them go" --

Mark had to find out something the hard way and I had to let him find out.

--‎"Did you know the people that are usually the strongest are usually the most sensitive? Did you know the people who exhibit the most kindness are the first to get mistreated? Did you know the one who takes care of others all the time are usually the ones who need it the most?

Did you know the 3 hardest things to say are I love you, I'm sorry, and Help me. Sometimes just because a person looks happy, you have to look past their smile and see how much pain they may be in."--

Hi Retail shoppers from a point of view from an employee.

I dread working Black Friday because half the time I can’t keep up with all the work and I try my best. But we all have to work so you can be happy. This year was not that bad but I feel sorry for those that worked the 12am shift. I don’t mind it but all the crazy’s come out at midnight for a DVD that’s cheap and others. I like great deals too but I will not go shopping in the store. Yes, maybe online but that takes the cake.

Where I work there was a line all the way around the store for checkout I was told at midnight. Now that’s insane if you ask me.

Something is getting done I hope so this does not happen again.

As for someone with a disability makes it that much harder for me. Yes, most people worse off than me could not work in retail but we can try.

I think the deals should be spread thought the year. What do you think?

Superhero Movie Showdown: Thor, X-Men, Green Lantern & Captain America - Screen Rant

Which one of these big budget comic book-based films is poised to be the best superhero movie of summer 2011?

Four of our top ten Most Anticipated Movies of 2011 – Thor, X-Men: First Class, Green Lantern, and the first place-ranking Captain America: The First Avenger – are comic book movies that all arrive in theaters this summer. We’ve gotten to see footage from all four films, and debates are already raging over the actors/actresses cast, character portrayals, costumes, visual F/X, action sequences – you name the detail, it’s already been analyzed to death.

So here comes the big one question: Which one of these films looks the best? Which one appears to feature the best acting, direction, story, characters, and stands out above the rest as the best superhero movie of Summer 2011?

Six Things You Should Clean – but Probably Don’t - DivineCaroline

Six Things You Should Clean – but Probably Don’t - DivineCaroline

My Life My Story

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and those with intellectual disabilities are not getting the respect they should.

People don’t understand those with intellectual disabilities just want to be accepted like anyone else would. We have been called by the wrong name by society long enough. Yes doctors still use it; people that have learned wrong still use it. People with intellectual disabilities just learn slower than anyone else. Does not everyone have a disability in their own way? I mean when people use the r-word it hurts us very much. Others say it’s not wrong, but how would you feel if someone called you ‘retarded’? I say those that use that word really don’t ‘respect’ those that are different and don’t want to accept us into society. Sheila Kinker changed the meaning of the r-word at the state level awhile back. And, it’s about time.

I am a leader in Special Olympics and I speak for all those that can’t. Yes I might be much slower than you or need extra help or there are those that can’t seem to learn at all. But can’t we all just get along? I don’t hear others use the ‘n-word’ for blacks anymore. So why should this be any different? Aren’t we all the same in God’s eyes?

It’s hard enough for those like us to find jobs that we can stick with. Some people just don’t get why others are different. Why does it take so long for others to see that different is good not bad? Wabash Center is there for those that can’t hold jobs in the community. Some can’t hold jobs at all.

I just hope you can get my meaning and change your train of thought. Respect is the new r-word!

Valentines Gift Ideas

Nothing Says “I Love You” Better Than…

It’s a sentence that contains three words, but possesses a meaning that 1,000 sentences would struggle to truly define. The Spanish would express it with a simple Te amo; its French alternative: Je t’aime. No matter what the language, there really is no other way to declare your deep, unfaltering feelings for someone than with the words I love you. This Valentines Day treat your lover to a gift that will blow them away, because nothing says I love you better than…

1. Flowers

A tried and tested classic that has lasted the test of time, a bouquet of flowers goes much deeper than a mere gesture of affection. A well arranged bouquet consisting of contrasting colors, species and fragrances, is a gift that shows your lover exactly how much they mean to you. Both truly thoughtful and appealing to the eyes, a beautiful bunch of flowers will make a huge impression this Valentine’s Day, for couples new and old.

2. Chocolates

Chocolate is a gift always guaranteed to please. From dark to white, caramel to walnut, a delightful box of elegant chocolates represents understanding, sentiment and love. Treat the love of your life to a delicious box of chocolates- a Valentine’s Day gift they will truly love.

3. A night out

February 14th just wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without the romance of an evening spent gazing into each other’s eyes, over a candle lit meal. Male chivalry, gentle flirting, fine wine and delightful food; dining out with the love of your life is terribly romantic. Combine all of this with the bright lights and stunning views of an evening spent gently floating down your local waterway, and you’ve created a gift to remember!

4. A spa day

All work and no rest can make for a tired, grumpy lover. In such a busy and draining world, it’s important to find the time to relax and unwind; treat your better half to the ultimate gift, a wonderful pamper day and take the weight off her aching feet. It’s the perfect way to put life’s trials and tribulations to the side for a day. She’ll look and feel incredible after a day spent indulging in complete relaxation.

5. A driving experience

If the man in your life is a car lover then nothing will please him more than getting behind the wheel of one of the world’s greatest supercars. Fierce acceleration, stunning steering and sheer exhilaration; there are not too many sensations that compare! With experiences ranging from Ferrari’s to Aston Martins, treat your man to a driving day, a gift that will say I love you more dearly than a kiss or a cuddle ever could.

Valentine’s day should be a celebration of love, of gifts, of oneness and even more, of naughty thoughts and intimate indulgences. With so many gift ideas on offer, treat the love of your life to an incredible gift this Valentine’s Day. Whether it’s a delicious box of milk chocolates or a sensual spa day, nothing says I love you with more passion, conviction and romance than a incredible gift experience.

So many possibilities for special gifts. So many opportunities to show your special someone how much you care. It’s one “special” day we set aside to say I love YOU.
Roses have bloomed redder for the lovers, and poems written from the heart have sounded more poetic. Valentines gifts express the joy of togetherness. And creative gift ideas can drive many a man and woman up the wall. What kind of creative gifts can you imagine? You’ll never know until you try. Let us help.

Yes, the most popular and well ‘loved’ holiday is coming up. In just a few weeks it’s going to be Valentine’s day. People in love dedicate the day to each other. Holding hands, exchanging gifts, smiling, kissing and hugging are things you will see people do on Valentine’s Day.
Do you want to do the same thing on Valentine’s Day? The same exchanging gifts, going to dinner and then snuggling up together after. That’s okay. But this year, why not try something different.

We specialize in ideas for Valentine’s Day gifts. And in a lot of cases, we’ll even provide resources for the ”extra” little things you might need.

Relax. Enjoy. Valentine day gift ideas are simply a way to express what you perhaps find difficult to say in words. Three simple words to a mate, lover or friend, “I love you” – the gift can say it all! Let’s make this Valentine’s Day one that you’ll both always remember.
